Integrative women’s neuropsychology consultation

Context

Perimenopause and menopause are a turning point in many women’s lives. While hormonal changes and visible changes of the body and face are often in the foreground, they frequently come with other, less recognised difficulties: physical and emotional exhaustion, heightened hypersensitivity, mental hyperactivity, significant mental load, relational difficulties or recurring conflicts, loss of self-confidence, a feeling of no longer recognising oneself, questions around feminine identity and the place one wishes to occupy at this stage of life, difficulty identifying one’s deeper needs or making choices aligned with oneself, automatic eating behaviours such as sugar cravings or emotional eating.

These manifestations go well beyond the medical or aesthetic framework and sometimes require specific support that gives meaning to what is being lived.

Cathy Assenheim

Aim

To offer a targeted consultation to better understand the mechanisms at play, support psychic and physiological resources, encourage reconnection with oneself and, if needed, refer to the centre’s other professionals.

This consultation is for women who have long functioned on “autopilot” and who now feel the need to understand themselves better, find their resources again and reconnect with their deeper needs. In short: to become themselves again!

The approach offered This consultation is based on an original approach, at the crossroads of:

  • • neuropsychology,
  • • the neurosciences,
  • • functional neurophysiology,
  • • women’s health,
  • • and a global reading of how the person functions.

It takes into account the interactions between:

  • • the nervous system,
  • • hormonal fluctuations,
  • • hypersensitivity,
  • • mental load,
  • • cognitive functioning,
  • • emotions,
  • • self-image,
  • • needs that are sometimes little or not verbalised.

Depending on the situation, tools from my clinical practice (notably kinesiological, but also vagus nerve regulation, EFT etc) may also be offered to refine the understanding of the patient’s needs.

For which patients?

This consultation could be offered to women presenting notably:

  • • a persistent feeling of exhaustion;
  • • increased hypersensitivity or hyperreactivity;
  • • adaptation difficulties linked to perimenopause or menopause;
  • • a feeling of loss of identity or confidence;
  • • difficulty recognising themselves in their body or face;
  • • concentration difficulties or mental hyperactivity;
  • • questions around their femininity, their place or their current needs.

Areas of work

  • • Feminine transitions, femininity and self-image
  • • Exhaustion and mental overload
  • • ‘Hyper’ functioning: hypersensitivity, overthinking, anxiety, rumination
  • • Weight management and sugar cravings
