Pigment laser – treatment of sun spots
Pigment laser is a targeted treatment that visibly reduces brown spots and pigment irregularities of the skin. These spots can appear with age, sun exposure, hormonal variations, pregnancy or certain medicines. Thanks to a precise action on melanin, the laser evens the complexion and restores more luminous, homogeneous skin.

How does pigment laser work?
The laser emits light energy specifically absorbed by the melanin in the spots. This energy turns into heat, fragmenting the pigment. The altered particles are then gradually eliminated by the body in the days and weeks after the session.
How a session unfolds
The skin must be perfectly clean, with no make-up or cream. A gel is applied to the area to be treated to optimise light diffusion. Each laser shot may feel like a light “elastic snap”. An anaesthetic cream is not recommended, as it would change the appearance of the spots. After the session, a healing cream is applied and make-up remains allowed immediately. The spots will darken over the following two weeks before fading gradually, a sign that the pigment is being cleared.
How many sessions are needed?
For an optimal result, several sessions may be needed. Although the response varies according to the type and depth of the spots, a notable improvement is often visible from the first session.
Possible side effects
This treatment is safe and usually well tolerated. Potential side effects include redness, slight swelling or itching, which disappear within a few days. Complications are rare and temporary.
Contraindications
Pigment laser cannot be performed in cases of:
- recent tanning or use of self-tanner;
- permanent make-up on the area;
- photosensitising medication;
- a photosensitising disease (e.g. lupus);
- pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Pigment laser is an effective way to restore a clearer, brighter, more even complexion, while lastingly reducing brown spots.
