Vaginal rejuvenation (Desirial®) by local hyaluronic acid injection – intimate health, comfort & well-being

Ageing and the vaginal mucosa: what impacts?
The vulvo-vaginal area is particularly sensitive to hormonal variations. The decrease in oestrogens, notably at menopause but sometimes also in younger women, leads to:
- thinning of the vaginal mucosa,
- loss of hydration,
- reduced elasticity and suppleness,
- weakening of the tissues,
- an increased risk of irritation and infections.
These physiological changes can cause daily discomfort and intimate unease, justifying specific, adapted care.

What is Desirial®?
A hyaluronic acid gel designed specifically for intimate female tissues.
Desirial® is a class III medical device manufactured by Laboratoires Vivacy. It is a cross-linked, sterile, resorbable hyaluronic acid gel, specially formulated for injections in the vulvo-vaginal area.
Desirial® is a soft gel intended for the vulva and the vaginal entrance, ideal for hydrating superficial tissues.
Hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the body, is gradually resorbed by the body.
Who can receive this treatment?
Menopausal women or women receiving chemotherapy who suffer from vulvar dryness, discomfort when walking or during physical activity.
How does the session unfold?
A quick treatment, performed in a medical practice.
1/ Consultation
History, clinical examination, definition of goals and check that there are no contraindications.
2/ Injection
Precise injection of Desirial® gel with a fine needle or a cannula, preceded by local anaesthesia. Duration: 20 minutes.
What should I do after the session?
- Use a gentle soap and apply a healing cream recommended at the consultation.
- No sexual intercourse for 48 hours.
- No bath/pool/sauna/hammam for 5 days.
- No cycling or compression of the treated area for 5 days.
How many sessions are needed?
2 sessions spaced 2 months apart are needed to allow sufficient hydration of the vulva and the vaginal entrance. Then 1 maintenance session can be considered every 12-18 months.
What are the side effects & specific precautions?
Like any invasive procedure, Desirial® injections can cause temporary local reactions.
Frequent and temporary effects
- Redness and slight heat at the injection point
- Localised oedema (swelling), resolved in 48–72 h
- Minor haematomas or bruises
- Sensitivity or slight pain after injection
- A feeling of tightness in the first days
Rare effects — see the doctor
- Nodules or granulomas (reaction to the product)
- Localised infection (rare if the asepsis protocol is followed)
- Allergic reaction (extremely rare, non-animal HA)
- Asymmetry or over-correction needing a touch-up
- Necrosis (exceptional)
If you have intermittent genital herpes, a prophylactic treatment will be offered.
Avoid taking NSAIDs (ibuprofen , …) 1 week before the appointment to avoid bruises at the injection point.
What are the contraindications to Désirial injections?
Certain medical situations contraindicate the use of Désirial®.

Active local infection (candidiasis, herpes, STI…)

Anticoagulant treatment without medical advice

Autoimmune disease (such as lichen sclerosus, Crohn’s disease, UC …)

History of allergy to hyaluronic acid

Uncontrolled coagulation disorders

Chronic inflammation of the pelvic area

Damaged skin or active dermatological disease in the area
