Botulinum toxin (Botox)
Botulinum toxin has been used in medicine for more than forty years, and both its efficacy and safety are now well established. Initially used to treat various neurological and muscular conditions, it is now a key tool in aesthetics, with doses far lower than in medical indications. Today, botulinum toxin is one of the safest and most impressive treatments in aesthetics, provided it is injected by an experienced physician.
Botulinum toxin (BT) or "Botox"
BT is a molecule we know very well, as it has been used for over 40 years.
Today, BT is used in many indications beyond aesthetics, including neurological disorders, cervical pain and urinary incontinence, at much higher doses than for aesthetic indications.
Wrinkle treatment with BT is now an ultra-safe procedure when performed by an experienced physician.
Very natural results can be achieved with BT. Patients do not want to look frozen. They want a refreshed look and a preventive effect on the formation and/or worsening of wrinkles.
BT is a purified protein that, when injected into a muscle, temporarily and reversibly relaxes it in a targeted way.
BT therefore acts on expression lines linked to muscle activity, mainly in the upper half of the face (the glabella or "frown line" between the eyebrows, forehead lines and crow's feet around the eyes).
Injections are not painful. They are performed with a micro-needle. No prior numbing cream is necessary.
The session lasts about 20 minutes. The treated area may stay red for 15 to 30 minutes; bruising is possible but rare.
Headaches may appear for 2 to 3 days within the 2 weeks following injections. Pain relief can be taken if needed.
It is not recommended to lie down or do sports for 3 hours after injections.
Other than that, everything is allowed: bath, shower, cream, make-up. Injections can be done in summer and winter.
Contraindication: pregnancy, breastfeeding, or certain rare neuromuscular diseases.
First effects appear 2 to 5 days after treatment, and the final result is assessed after about two weeks. A small touch-up may sometimes be considered at that time.
Results usually last between 4 and 6 months, with generally longer intervals after several sessions.
Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the underarms or hands, with excellent efficacy.
